Not only is the end of 2019 the chance to step into a new year, but we’re also actually stepping into a new decade. This is a chance to make some changes in our personal lives over the next 12 months, and a chance to start the decade off on a completely new foot. This clean slate chance doesn’t have to be limited to visiting the gym, giving up bad habits, reading more, or worrying less. This is actually a great opportunity to make some changes to your house, and one of the most popular options is a fresh coat of paint on the inside. Studies have shown that certain colors produce certain moods. For example, the color blue induces peace and calm. Create a new atmosphere in your home with colors that are out of your comfort zone. Here are some trends for interior colors that you may want to check out as we start the new year.

Pastels with Something Extra

Young Huh of Young Huh Interiors explains that pastels will continue to be popular, but now there is a push to adding a sense of earthy undertones and warmth with those pastels. This allows interior designers to use a good combination of both spring and autumn colors, making the rooms in your home work no matter what time of year it is.

Classic with a Touch of Modern

Some colors have always, and will always be popular when it comes to interior paint. Calming neutrals have always been a top choice, and that probably won’t change at any time in the future. However, several designers are seeing an uptick in people adding something to those neutral pallets. There has been a leap towards some rich, “moody” colors that allow homeowners to make more of a statement than the traditional mocha-colored walls. For example, dusty teal has become a new neutral favorite that pairs well an array of colors from navy blue to birch.

Black and White

Nope, we’re not talking about retro television shows. Designer Laura Umansky expects to see a trend towards the use of bold contrast colors in tile and even in paint for the homeowner who is looking to add a little drama to their interior color scheme.

Colors that Change with Time

There has also been a recent increase in the usage of some paint colors (primarily blues, greens, and grays) that change based on the time of day and amount of light in the room. These color choices are especially appealing in bedrooms that you want to be a functional space during the day and a more calming, sedate space at night.

Don’t be afraid to change your color palette and make some bold choices when it comes to the interior of your home. Let’s start off 2020 with a new color!
